A very beautiful place to stay in with amazing housemates, at first I was too shy as I was the only male in the house but I later adjusted. I was advised by a Social Worker to look into SupportMatch I was advised by a Social Worker to look into SupportMatch - and to contact Zaira de Novellis specifically - many months ago, when it was becoming clear that my mother, then 95, was starting to need some subtle support and presence in her house. She had, up to that point, been entirely self-sufficient in all aspects of her life. The concept of Home Share seemed to me entirely convincing and an excellent solution.

Zaira was, from the start, caring, concerned, interested and extremely responsive. I was very impressed with how quickly she replied to queries and messages, sometimes outside "working hours" and formed a very good opinion of her from the various telephone conversations we had. It was clear that she had got of a good grip of my mother's history, character and needs and she enthusiastically set about matching her with someone who would enjoy Mum's company and benefit from a home in a very expensive part of Surrey.

We very nearly got there on a couple of occasions. However, sudden developments in my mother's health took her into the realm of full-time live-in care and we never got a SupportMatch person, absolutely through no fault or failing on the part of Zaira and the company.

Data protection precludes my mentioning any of the lovely people my sister has had to stay, but I can confirm, albeit with the odd hiccup which is quite normal, she is so much happier and relaxed . Don't let anyone try to tell you that from living alone for 20 years, then living with someone you don't know, is easy! Of course, both host and guest need to compromise- but WOW- when it works it really is worth it. If there is a 'problem' the Team at Support Match are there to help, and help they do. This is a Genius solution. My sister knows that if she falls over - her new companion will be there (maybe not for an hour or so) but they will be there. My sister is tiny -so changing a light bulb is impossible, (The hip-replacement means no climbing a ladder), the guest can do this in two seconds. Less than 60 minutes changed my entire life! A massive change for the better, I hasten to add. I was getting very depressed living in London with two lodgers for various reasons, as I really needed to move back to my hometown to help support my Mother who had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but it looked like a very difficult proposition as I have my own physical disability and very limited finances. However, I remembered reading an article in a quality newspaper about the Homeshare Scheme, so I applied to various agencies and within the hour a lovely lady at Supportmatch got in contact. Even more surprisingly, within a few weeks I was matched with a great householder and am happy to report we have spent out first month together being very productive, supportive and most of all getting to know each other and sharing similar values, ideas, opinions and mostly laughing out loud! We have used Supportmatch for nearly 3 years for my elderly mother who was living on her own. Whilst mum is able to do her own personal hygiene care and even a little bit of cooking, she has mild Alzheimers and her mobility was becoming increasingly poor - she could get around her home but not out and about. Her Alzheimers meant she had a lot of difficulties in remembering to take her tablets morning and evening. Having someone in the house has meant she has continued to be able to live there, get her tablets taken as required and socialise. Each lady we have had has been excellent; so kind and helpful and always gone out of their way to be flexible and do whatever was needed for mum. For me as her daughter living far away it has meant I feel reassured she is safe and in good hands.

Excellent response from Supportmatch, even though mum could not make full use of their service. Unfortunately she was admitted to hospital for a longterm stay almost as soon as the match was arranged. However, her homesharer provided a comforting presence in the house for the period that she was away as well as providing welcome visits in hospital. Supportmatch was very sensitive to mum's requirements, following her progress as well as removing the very minimal levy for several of the months that mum was detained in hospital. Unfortunately the situation had changed somewhat when mum eventually came home, requiring more personal care on a daily basis, which was too much for a homesharer, but should her situation improve enough to no longer require this personal care, I would have absolutely no hesitation in turning to them once again
